feeling like springtime yet? 

it definitely is here- more like summer since we hit 85 earlier this week. Oh, palm springs. 

spring used to be my least favourite season until, 

just like all the songs say, I fell in love. 

tomorrow will mark five years (five years!) since that day 

that spencer said 'tara noelle, I adore you.' 

sigh. 

that spring I literally did hear birds singing all the time, and flowers were blooming everywhere. 

sap sap sap. 

now I love spring. 

maybe one day I will even live somewhere where buying rainboots isn't absurd.

as you may know, i have a love for eastern europe and its people,

so i was happy to find that

behida was born in northern bosnia, 

emigrating to america after the war.

but it was in florence that she discovered 

her love of early 20th century american fashion

(who doesn't love it?) 

she studied millinery and now lives 

in northern california. 

what do you think? 

i'm ready to read the great gatsby (again)

and find some vintage vogue patterns.

First ever blog feature!

I just got an email from the ladies at handmade gift guide to say our plaid men's scarf has been featured on their blog! This is the first time we have been featured on someone else's blog, and we are very thankful!

Another recent first was a complete and utter stranger left a comment on this here blog! I got so excited, I ran down the hallway screaming and then Spencer humored me by saying, "let's go see!"

These are nice little perks at a time when I have been too busy to put much effort into social networking or joining in the forums on etsy.

Thanks for the support, friends! It does not go unnoticed.

A Fresh Idea!

Or a crazy one...

Last night, while making dinner, I started snapping away with my trusty digital camera. This is normal; Spencer and I typically start every meal by giving thanks and then taking four or five pictures from different angles. We try not to do this when we have dinner guests, but it's pretty addicting.

I love my butcher's block cutting board, a wedding gift from Carl Applegate who taught me woodworking for a year. I really wanted to make one of these, but then Carl and Ellen had to move away, so they got me a beautiful cutting board as a gift. All those summer veggies looked gorgeous against the dark wood, and upon looking over my photos this morning, I realized that I really liked this one in particular:

So I set it as my desktop background. Voila! Then I thought, "hey! I wonder if anyone on etsy is selling food desktop backgrounds?" I searched. Nothing! NOTHING! Not that I think that means I have found my niche, but just the fact that you can type anything into etsy's search and come up with ZERO is pretty incredible. I mean, there must be like 80 billion items for sale on that site (there are several very good food photograph prints for sale)!

So.... I listed mine.

Just for fun. Not that I expect anyone to even find it, let alone buy it.

Still, it isn't stopping me from mentally playing with new shop names for my budding food stylist career...

Mae Photoshoot Outtakes

Since I am now listing my baby skirts and headbands on freesparrow, I thought I'd put up some bloopers from last weeks' photo shoot with baby Mae. She was a real trooper, for someone who can't stand a headband. Note to us: FEED the baby before you start. Makes for a much happier model.

Friday Favourite: replicca

Today's Friday Favourite is replicca! Designer and Creator Rebecca makes super cool tees, sweatshirts, tunics, etc. Now, this was a bit of a tease to put this up here, since she is closing her shop for the summer, but I figured that it still gives her shop exposure and the rest of you an opportunity to find a cool under-the-radar clothing designer. The good news is, Rebecca will be back in the fall with a new design to her shop and new items! In the meantime, you can join her mailing list, follow her on twitter, or read her daily (I can only imagine) updated blog! She was even able to quit her day job and was featured on etsy's 'quit your day job' series... That is one of the lofty goals I have for my etsy endeavor- to be one of the featured seller's in that series. I am miles and miles away from that goal, but each of you reading this is helping me to get there!

I seriously contemplated using my starbuck's paycheck for this sweatshirt! darn you, mortgage!

Friday Favourite: Cubist Literature

Happy Friday, everybody!

This has got to be quick- Spencer and I are off to our own personal retreat center (a.k.a. Ed & Margaret's house) in Anza in ONE HOUR! Yippee!!

Today's featured etsy seller is Cubist Literature. An etsy shop run by a guy! There are many out there, but it seems to be a female-dominated arena. Cubist Literature is the creative endeavor of Craig Hunter, 25, who lives in NYC, but is a Texan at heart (I know this will please my Texan readers). He mainly does t-shirts with interesting screenprint designs, but now there are a few other items as well!
